I reproduced the bug on Windows 8 but not on Windows 7, which is confusing, because the reported had the bug under Windows 7. However, I did not see anything in Event Viewer's Application log. Also, I did not see any problem with signatures. I compared the Process Monitor output of LO 4.0.4 and LO 4.1.0.2 and I see no difference, the .odt file was opened on both case.
