Bug ID: 170977
Summary: FILEOPEN UI: show the path of a recent file, tooltip
style
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
The files list in the open recent files dropdown menu may contain duplicate
names in different paths. It is currently impossible to know which file will be
opened before picking one at random. This request proposes to show the path of
the file under the cursor in a tooltip.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create LO-Calc files with the identical name in different subdirectories.
2. Open and close each one with LO-Calc.
3. Drop down the recent opened files list and try to decide which filename is
the one you want.
Actual Results:
The filename appears twice in the list with no way to distinguish which path
each one is in.
Expected Results:
A tooltip shows the path of the file under the cursor.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
The recent files is a LRU list but try doing this after some weeks have passed
and these files are no longer the latest ones on the list. The choice is not
obvious.
This is a nice-to-have because it improves the utility of the recent file list.
The current workaround is to open the specific file you want using the FILEOPEN
dialog. Just picking a file in the recent list at random has the chance of
moving the file you don't want back to the top of the LRU list.
