This issue consists of four aspects:

#1: I would agree here.

#2: The idea of the sidebar was simplicity first. More options are always
available via the dialog.

#3a: The patch also introduces a history of search terms similar to how the
quickfind toolbar works. Use case might be that "Eve searches for <Foo>, makes
some modifications to the document, and searches again. This might sometimes be
a long text and typing it again is tedious."

#3b: The patch enables auto completion, which is often in my way. Sure, if you
search for <Fo...> and <Ba...> you have to type only the leading characters and
the right item is picked from the history. But a subsequent search for <Fa...>
always shows the previous first.
