Bug ID: 171417
Summary: LibreOffice is stuck on loading dialog and never
launches the program
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.7.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Noticed the problem after Windows 11 version 25H2 KB5066128 & KB5054156 on
9.3.2026, previously worked on 24H2 KB5050575 & KB5059093 installed on
29.4.2025. I don't know if this is the reason for the bug.
I can't open LibreOffice or any files at all after 9.3.2026. When launching
LibreOffice from anywhere the app never opens and gets stuck loading in an
infinite loop. The flashing loading dialog shows the text "synchronising
repository for bundled/shared extensions" over and over. The loading stops only
when I quit LibreOffice from task manager, LibreOffice never shows up on the
taskbar/the app never opens. This will continue for hours and keeps focusing on
top when clicking between monitors where the dialog goes away and comes back
every second or so (flashing).
Things I've tried that haven't changed anything in the behaviour:
- Uninstalled LibreOffice 26 (same behaviour) and installed 25.8.2. from the
libreoffice.org website, restarted computer between both
- In Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features, chose "LibreOffice 28.5.2"
(or other versions I tried) and Repair, restarted PC
- Uninstalled LibreOffice from Settings/Add/Installed apps, restarted PC,
reinstalled from the msi
- Restarted Windows 11 in Safe Mode by holding shift when choosing restart in
Start Menu. Launched LibreOffice with cmd+R typed "soffice" (no bluetooth mouse
in Safe Mode)
- Opened the program with the "LibreOffice (Safe Mode)" executable in
"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\LibreOffice"
- Opened the program by clicking on a file (e.g. .xlsx .pptx .odt .docx)
- Launched LibreOffice with cmd+R typed "soffice"
- With these corrupt profile instructions
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile), renamed my user profile in
AppData/LibreOffice/4/User to "user_", launching the program, and LibreOffice
creates a new user profile. Tried renaming "4_" as well.
- Added LibreOffice as an exception in firewall in Control Panel/System and
Security/Windows Defender Firewall/Advanced Settings, Inboud Rules, New Rule,
"C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.exe"
- Uninstalled Windows updates up to KB5050575 & KB5059093. I was unable to
uninstall KB5074109
- Uninstalled 28.5.2 and installed 25.2.7.2 from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/25.2.7.2/win/x86_64/
restarted in between and tried repair install
There is no launch in safe mode when right clicking on a program in Start Menu
on Win 11.
I truly can't think of anything else to do and I don't want to poke around
RegEdit yet. I don't know if there's a "cleaner" uninstall that I can do.
Different versions don't seem to make a difference.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install LibreOffice 25.2.7 on 28.12.2025
2. Possibly don't install any updates to LibreOffice?
3. Install Windows Update 25H2 after 24H2
4. Open LibreOffice
Actual Results:
LibreOffice is stuck in the same loading dialog infinitely. Can't open any
documents
Expected Results:
Open LibreOffice or any documents
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
I can't do any troubleshooting steps that require me to click on a menu item,
because I can't launch the program at all.
