I was and still use the NVDA screen reader as a totally blind person. F6 navigation including status bar was included in MS office suite whereas it was not in the LibreOffice suite at that time. I thought that LibreOffice should mirror the MS Office suite as closely as possible to ease transition. The ability to move between the elements of the Status bar like in MS office seemed obvious to me. Due to envelope addressing and printing issues in LibreOffice, I set it aside at that time.
