Bug ID: 171443
Summary: Add "Position and Size" section to Sidebar for Tables
in Impress and Draw
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.1.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: UI
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
When adding shapes, text fields or images in Impress and Draw, users have
various ways to modify their layout. For precise control, the "Position & Size"
section in the Sidebar is particularly useful, as it allows adjusting
coordinates and dimensions directly without having to open a separate dialog
via the context menu.
However, this option is currently missing for tables in Impress and Draw. While
tables can be moved via drag-and-drop or the alignment options and resized
using their corner handles, entering exact values requires opening the
"Position and Size" dialog (either via the context menu or the "Format" menu).
There is no corresponding section in the Sidebar for table objects.
Why this should be added:
1. A section in the sidebar makes the UI more consistent and improve workflow
speed. A consistent behaviour for all objects is very helpful for a better UX.
2. Opening a modal dialog is slower than using the Sidebar.
3. In the Sidebar, users can quickly test different values and see the results
immediately. With the current dialog-based approach, users often have to reopen
the window multiple times if the first adjustment doesn't yield the desired
result.
This inconsistency has been present for a long time, and bringing tables in
line with other graphical objects would be a significant step toward a more
polished and professional UI.
