my first thought. Back then the usual case for BTLR text was latin text in a
table cell, with "rotate to the left" direction used, which happens to be
bottom-to-top, then (once the line is full) left to right. Even multi-line text
is there (this is typically a row header visually), not to mention shapes. So
if something is missing, I would speculate that some transformation goes wrong
and the position is outside a clip rectangle, so the image is nominally
missing.

But I don't know for sure, would have to investigate.
