Bug ID: 172216
Summary: Strange window location behavior
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.2.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Unfortunately I cannot seem to narrow down the cause of this issue.
My system uses the following command to open Calc .ods files
libreoffice --calc %U
I have a folder of .ods files.
I open them from a file manager.
(I have tried 2 different file managers and this issue occurs with both, so has
nothing to do with file manager)
I have 1 panel showing at the bottom of my screen.
When I open up these files they generally open up maximized and they load up
fine.
However somewhat randomly I notice that sometimes as I keep opening up other
.ods files, the Calc window opens where it is not maximized, it actually seems
like it is opening up slightly bigger then my screen and maybe slightly off to
the right.
Sometimes the text within the status bar is half cut off vertically.
Other times the status bar cannot be seen at all, it is beyond the Panel at
bottom of screen.
I then have to manually maximize the window and then the status bar and window
in general properly maximizes.
Steps to Reproduce:
These steps probably will not mean anything, but they are just general actions
that randomly could generate this issue
-Folder of .ods Calc files
-Open from a file manager
-Open file loads fine maximized
-Close that file
-Open next file in file manager file order
-Open file loads fine maximized
-Close that file
Sometime if I keep following these steps
-Eventually one of the files will open not properly maximized like all the
others did.
Actual Results:
Sometimes it will be the same file in the file list that this occurs with.
Yet after I maximize that instance and save the file, sometimes it will open
again and it will be fine, but then a different file will open with this
maximize issue.
Sometimes, once this issue does occur, if I do not maximize the window, I just
close the Calc window. Then when I open up other Calc files that previously
opened properly maximized, then they open with this issue as well. So it seems
like for some reason the issue transfers to any files opened after it is
experienced.
Expected Results:
For Calc window to open up and fit on screen.
Reproducible: Sometimes
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
As I mentioned it is not due to a specific file manager.
I thought a more possible answer could be the Linux desktop environment/window
manager being used. I tested this with a few different DEs. Even tested the
same ones from different distros.
I do not want to name the DEs I want to see if others can replicate this more
in general.
I will just say that the DEs I tested this out on were GTK3 based.
I tried adjusting the Panel heights thinking maybe this could be a cause but
still occurs with short height Panels as well.
The only differences were the LibreOffice versions that were used.
All the DEs I tested that came with LO 25.2.3.2 did not generate this issue no
matter how many different times I tried them.
The DE that contained LO 26.2.2.2
So if this issue is actually LO based, then maybe it was some kind of change
that happened between 25.2.3.2 - 26.2.2.2?
If anyone experiences anything like this please let me know.
Not a major issue but can just really be annoying to have windows keep opening
up where I cannot see parts of it and then manually having to maximize each
time.
Thank you to anyone who reads this and willing to help narrow the cause of this
issue down/fixing it.
