Bug ID: 172488
Summary: Text selection (mouse click‑drag and Shift+Arrow keys)
broken when libreoffice-gtk3 is installed
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.4.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
On Ubuntu (Xubuntu/GNOME), with the libreoffice-gtk3 integration package
installed, text selection has stopped working in LibreOffice Writer. Clicking
and dragging simply moves the cursor without selecting text. Similarly, holding
Shift and using arrow keys fails to extend the selection. Removing
libreoffice-gtk3 (falling back to the default X11 VCL) restores normal
selection, but the UI looks outdated (Windows 95 style). The issue is
reproducible in both a fresh profile and an existing one.
Steps to Reproduce:
Install Ubuntu (tested on version: [your version, e.g. 24.04 LTS]).
Install libreoffice and libreoffice-gtk3 via apt.
Launch libreoffice --writer.
Type a line of text (e.g., "Hello world").
Actual Results:
Try to select text by clicking and dragging with the mouse – the cursor moves
but no selection is made.
Try Shift + Right Arrow – cursor moves but no text is selected.
Expected Results:
Text selection should work normally.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
