As I said in our meeting, that's effectively not a compromise, since the NBB's
audience is mostly first-time users, which expect a default interface in the
same vein as ribbons in MSO, OnlyO or COOL. I'm not one of those users - I like
my menus - but IMNSHO, the excessive padding of tab headers will be perceived
by that audience as a deficiency; and they will not go try fixing it via
tweaking (expert) options.

I also mentioned that, in MSO, the maximum tab width is much narrower than
ours. The dynamic narrowing _starts_ from our narrow-tab state, and only
becomes narrower (even to the extent of some letters of the tab names
disappearing!)

Anyway, I'll just hope a more pronounced majority forms in favor of the
narrowing.
