            Bug ID: 172606
Summary: UX/UI: Improve Formula Autoinput/Autocomplete dropdown
navigation and styling (similar to Google Sheets)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.4.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Calc
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
The current implementation of Formula Autoinput (Autocomplete) and Function
Hints in LibreOffice Calc feels outdated and hinders the typing workflow. When
a user starts typing a formula, the suggestions and the subsequent syntax guide
are displayed in a rigid, non-interactive horizontal line that lacks modern UX
standards.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a new spreadsheet in LibreOffice Calc.

2. Click on any cell and start typing a formula prefix, for example: =IF

3. Observe the horizontal black text line that appears with function
suggestions.

4. Try to use the keyboard arrow keys (Up/Down) to select a suggested function
(e.g., IFERROR).

Actual Results:
The suggestions appear in a single horizontal line. If there are more functions
than space permits, it simply states "+1 more" with no way to expand it
visually.

Pressing the Down Arrow key does not navigate through the suggestions; instead,
it moves the active cell selection to the row below, breaking the formula entry
context.

The function help/syntax box uses a tiny, hard-to-read font size (dependent on
system tooltip settings) with poor padding and contrast.

Expected Results:
A clean, vertical dropdown menu should appear, listing all functions matching
the typed prefix.

Users should be able to navigate through this list using the Up/Down Arrow keys
and select the desired function by pressing Tab or Enter to autocomplete it.

The syntax/help box should be modernized with proper font scaling, adequate
padding, and clear visual separation, making it highly readable (similar to the
polished implementation in Google Sheets or Excel 365).

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:

This is a Request for Enhancement (RFE). Modernizing this behavior will
significantly improve productivity for keyboard-driven power users and lower
the barrier to entry for users transitioning from cloud-based spreadsheet
applications.
