            Bug ID: 172628
Summary: The Calc Notebookbar sectioning and command labeling
                    has (too) many problems
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.8.0.0 alpha0+ master
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Calc
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

(This is spun off of bug 166641)

The current Calc Notebookbar - after the introduction of section titles - has
many problems in section naming, command labeling, and the placement of
commands in sections - which I list below. IMNSHO, some of these, and the
combination of all of these, put us in a non-release-worthy state.

The File tab
-------------

1. "Save as Templates" cannot be in a section named "New". Either it should be
moved, or the section needs to be renamed/reconceived.
2. The "File" tab cannot have a section named "File" - that's redundant. And,
indeed, commands from other sections would fit just as well in this section.
The sectioning here needs to be rethought - both the assignment of commands to
sections and this section's name (possibly also the names of others).
3. In the "Print" section, the word "Print" should be removed from the labels.
4. If we don't have a good section choice for many items, perhaps we should
leave them as unsectioned, and section whatever clearly fits in one the named
sections.

The Home tab
-------------

1. I'd replace "Cells" with "Cell Grid", since Format Cells and similar
functionality is not in there.
2. Once we say "Cells" or "Cell Grid", we should change "Merge and Center
Cells" to just "Merge & Center" or "Centered Merge".
3. The Conditional Formatting dialog Cannot be part of the "Number" NBB
section.
4. There's something weird going on in the Alignment section: On the top right
row, there seems to be an indication of an extra command, in the pressed state.
I think this might need a separate bug.
5. Where are the Cell RTL/LTR buttons?
6. The "Font" section is mis-named, having several non-font-specific commands.
Try "Formatting", "Format", "Cell Formatting" or "Cell Format".
7. In the "Formatting" section, drop the second word from the label for the
paint: Instead of "Clone Formatting", we can now use "Clone".

The Insert Tab
---------------

1. "Text box" and "vertical text" are probably a better fit in the Objects
section, as this section seems to be about the text of cells.
2. In the "Object" section, we should remove the word "Object" from the labels
of "Insert OLE object" and "Formula Object". In fact, the first of these two
can just have the label "OLE", since both "Insert" and "Object" are part of its
context.
3. I am not sure I like "Chart" in the "Objects" section. I would rather it be
in the same section with PivotTable, since while they're very different
entities, they are two ways to analyze data by presenting it differently.
4. (Not specific to this bug - could have been filed separately) In the "Text"
section, the labels "Insert Current Date" and "Insert Current Time" should lose
the prefix "Insert".

The Layout Tab
---------------

1. In the "Format" section, "Format Page" should lose the "Format" prefix.
2. Suggest renaming the "Print Area" section into just "Print".
3. In the "Print" section, remove the "Print" prefix from "Print Page"
4. In the "Sheet" section, remove the word "Sheet"/"Spreadsheet" from: "Insert
Sheet", "Rename Sheet", "Spreadsheet Theme"
5. The "Objects" section should probably be renamed "Object", since the
commands are more typically applied to a single object (although they can apply
to many)

The Data Tab
-------------

1. In the "Filter" section, the suffix "Filter" should be removed from at least
"Standard Filter" and "Advanced Filter" - and possibly also from "AutoFilter".
2. "Examination" is not a good section name. I don't have a good alternative
suggestion right now. Maybe "Analysis" or "Data Analysis"? That's also vague,
but sounds better.

The Review Tab
---------------

1. In the "Comments" section, the "Comment" command should be renamed "Insert".
2. Replace the Document section with "Spreadsheet" or "Sheet", and move the
Redact, Compare and Merge into their own section (maybe call that one
"Versions"?)
3. In the "Spreadsheet" section, remove the word "Spreadsheet" from the labels
of commands "Share Spreadsheet", "Protect Sheet", "Protect Spreadsheet
Structure"
4. I am not sure that "Redact", "Compare" and "Merge" belong in the "Document"
section, especially with my suggested name change, but even without it.

The View Tab
-------------

1. Consider renaming the Freeze section into "Panes"
2. Consider renaming the Options section into "Toggles" or "Toggle"

and a final comment about Calc: After the sectioning and label shortening, we
will have a lot more empty horizontal space, in addition to already having
unused space in some tabs: Object, Form, Print, Tools. The "Tools" tab is
almost empty already.
