It's partially the same.
My concern is to use styles in a professional environment where a graphic chart
is mandatory.
In this environment, you have to conform with rules and it's necessary to
provide users with a small subset of styles conforming to the chart.

Consequently, I need to - at the very minimal - *hide* some of the predefined
styles. Preferably, I would like to delete all unneeded styles and have the
ability to rename the remaining.

Yes, I understand that it can _currently_ lead to unpredictable results.
I think that one may implement a fallover mechanism (like the one existing for
fonts) where the "Default style" is applied whenever a named style is
inexistent.

It's a ground mechanism which will make LO more professional and more suitable
for specific environments.
