Bug ID: 173828
Summary: Writer: KDE Global Menu stops responding after
inserting the first image
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
In LibreOffice Writer on KDE Plasma 6, the KDE Global Menu stops responding
correctly after inserting the first image.
The first image can be inserted normally using:
Insert -> Image -> From File
After the image is inserted:
- Insert -> Image -> From File no longer opens the file picker.
- Clicking File -> Open in the KDE Global Menu does nothing.
- Other Global Menu items may also stop responding to mouse clicks.
- Keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+O continue to work and open the file picker.
Closing and restarting LibreOffice temporarily restores the functionality. The
problem occurs again after inserting the first image.
The problem occurs only in Writer. Calc and Impress work normally.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start LibreOffice Writer on KDE Plasma 6 with KDE Global Menu enabled.
2. Create a new Writer document.
3. Select Insert -> Image -> From File and insert an image.
4. Select Insert -> Image -> From File again.
5. Try clicking File -> Open in the KDE Global Menu.
Actual Results:
After inserting the first image, the KDE Global Menu becomes partially
unresponsive.
The second attempt to use Insert -> Image -> From File does not open the file
picker.
Clicking File -> Open from the KDE Global Menu also does nothing, although
Ctrl+O still opens the file picker correctly.
Restarting LibreOffice restores normal behavior until the first image is
inserted again.
Expected Results:
The KDE Global Menu should remain fully functional after inserting an image.
Insert -> Image -> From File should open the file picker every time, allowing
multiple images to be inserted into the same Writer document.
All menu commands should remain accessible by mouse after inserting an image.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Environment:
- OS: CachyOS Linux
- Desktop: KDE Plasma 6
- Session: Wayland
- LibreOffice: 26.8.0.3 (X86_64)
- Package: libreoffice-fresh 26.8.0-2.1
- VCL: kf6
- UI: pl-PL
- KDE Global Menu: enabled
The issue is reproducible every time.
Additional testing:
1. Disabling KDE Global Menu completely fixes the problem.
2. Starting LibreOffice with:
KDE_NO_GLOBAL_MENU=1 libreoffice --writer
fixes the problem while keeping the Qt6/KF6 interface.
3. Starting Writer with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 libreoffice --writer
fixes the problem, but KDE Global Menu is not available.
4. Starting Writer with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice --writer
fixes the problem.
5. Starting Writer with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=qt6 libreoffice --writer
does not fix the problem.
6. LibreOffice Safe Mode does not fix the problem.
7. LibreOffice Calc and Impress do not exhibit the problem.
This strongly suggests an interaction between LibreOffice Writer, KDE Global
Menu and the KF6/Qt6 VCL backend.
The problem is not related to the file picker itself, because Ctrl+O continues
to open the file picker after the Global Menu becomes unresponsive.
