Bug ID: 173849
Summary: Do not reuse UI strings between text columns and table
columns
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: UI
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
In the recently-ish introduced vertically stacked dialog tabs, the "Columns"
tab name seems to be used in both dialog tabs that are about text columns and
others that are about table columns. This is bad i18n, because in languages
other than English, different words may be needed. In Finnish "text column"
should be translated as "palsta" and "table column" as "sarake", for example,
and similar distinctions may exist in other languages, as well.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. The string in Weblate: In Weblate:
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_ui-master/vclmessages/en/?checksum=8ba1ff188ccdf4be
Actual Results:
Only one "Columns" string is used for both dialog tabs that are about text
columns and dialog tabs that are about table columns.
Expected Results:
Separate strings are used for the different meanings of "column", enabling
correct translations.
Reproducible: Always
