LibreOffice has seen a lot of progress in search function in version 27.2 that will be released in February 2027 (due to JustinL commits). At this moment, you mentioned: "having to reset everything and start from scratch" is not a good idea. So, you could have a corrupted profile that is causing the app to crash for you. But if you don't want to reset the user profile, we could not help you more than that. What I would do would be to install version 27.2 (is in development at this moment, but it can be tested) and reset the user profile on 27.2 (just in case). And test.
