There are many differences between the connection to external databases with the original versions and the versions, which are specially created for one Linux-system. Remember, that I could only start the connection to PostgreSQL through ODBC with the LO-version of my System (OpenSUSE) - not with the original rpm-packages from LO. And only with this version I can't reproduce what you are writing. I can create a boolean field with the direct connection and it is shown with ODBC as field fix 1 char.
