They are designed to allow you to follow hyperlinks and then navigate "Back" to the starting point, ie, the location of the first hyperlink that was clicked. My spreadhseets contain many hyperlinks that typically navigate to other worksheets within the spreadsheet. A "Back" button is absolutely essential from my point of view; I cannot migrate to Calc until is has been implemented.
