Adobe Illustrator is widely used and an .ai import as vector graphic would be good. Here is some information on the file format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Illustrator_Artwork. Old .ai files are based on EPS, which is supported by LibreOffice. New .ai files are based on PDF.
