as far as I know the hi-contrast theme is a very old theme inherited from OOo.
IMHO is the ugliest and less usable of all the bunch and I'm not aware of many
users employing it.

probably the mix of hi-contrast LibO icons and Win7 basic theme is a bad match
as I can see from your screenshot... 

so the workaround is to use a different LibO icon theme or a different Win7
theme

I change summary notes and I set status to NEW though I'm tempted to label this
as NOTABUG.
