While using Gnumeric, I experienced the following: If you add a data filter to a column (Data -> Filter), and then click on the little arrow in the top cell to display all the values you can filter for, all other areas of the screen become unresponsive to any mouse clicks, the computer becomes unresponsive to keyboard shortcuts and even the On/Off button causes no response! All you can do is to click somewhere in the list to apply the filter or press Esc on the keyboard to leave the mask. I believe that this is a major flaw in the operating system, as any program causing such a state and then crashing can cause the behaviour described in this bug report. This does not explain why LO crashes, but it does explain how a crash of LO could freeze the whole OS.
