I wish it was this simple! I have all sorts of issues with pointing as well as
the above.

A) The "working" example above only seems to work if you save the local formula
before adding a reference to another sheet. Otherwise it does the same as the
first example.

B) I sometimes get a reasonable reference swapped for #REF!. As above, enter a
local reference and save. Then edit to add a remote reference (from another
page). On hitting return, I get a prompt asking if I want to save the formula
as, for example: #REF!.C9. The local reference has gone completely, together
with the operator leaving the #REF and the C9 from the other sheet.

This is ALL WITHIN ONE WORKBOOK. Absolutely no references to other workbooks.
The workbook was started in 4.1 or before and then opened in 4.2.

AND IT IS NOT CONSISTENT. I had a short period when it worked as expected but
then went back to being flaky again. And the various symptoms above appear in
different circumstances.
