Hiya, installing 3.4.5 (I was using 3.4.3) appears to have fixed it. The
problem was not specific to particular documents, definitively not to new
documents (they lasted sometimes a bit longer, whereas larger documents (>10
pages) would crash LOo instantly upon wheel-scrolling. Looks, as if somebody
else found the problem already and fixed it.
