So good news is that this is fixed in 4.3
My analysis:
Ubuntu 14.04 x64
LibreOffice 4.2.5
Confirmed
LibreOffice 4.3.0.2 & 4.4 built: July 21, 2014
Works as expected

@Simon - to confirm that the bug is resolved please test LibreOffice 4.3.0.3rc
