Yes, many aren't maintained well, but they also have inadequate bug reporting tools. Almost everyone can report a bug in a spelling dictionary, but almost nobody would bother to open Bugzilla for that. It must be as easy as clicking "Add to dictionary", but currently even if you report it to Bugzilla, it probably won't be handled - the user would have to search for the maintainer's email manually.
