--- Comment #4 from Bernard du Toit <bernarddt+b...@gmail.com> --- I don't understand, why would the VLOOKUP design specification allow an VLOOKUP input value of a cell reference (A4) to be "interpreted" as a Regular Expression? Especially because the input is a string that should be found in another list of values. Isn't it asking a lot to require by "default" that I need to alter my input data set to accommodate the inner workings of a formula? It also indicates that we need to know something that is not visible in our formula (so I'm not asking for special treatment of my input as regular expression), and the obvious expectation that it should "look-up the input cell content in another list and display the nominated field's value from that lookup set", as being wrong. Globally disabling that setting also does not seem right as it probably would be useful in other scenarios, just not when I'm trying to lookup a specific value from a specific list. Another argument, the VLOOKUP only return ONE result, so why would it allow regular expression matching, that would only make sense if you want/and expect a list of results. (Like when performing a search through your document). Lastly since I didn't expect CALC to precieve my input as a regular expression, maybe the default setting of that option should be off by default? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
