The current space in the status bar used for "Insert/Overwrite" mode is labeled with text, that space could be used for three icons perhaps with a localized single character label. Red or green "dots" with a single character (localized) label C: Red off/Green locked on -> for capslock I: Red off/Green locked on -> for insert N: Red off/Green locked on -> for numlock Or maybe just amber "dot"s for each when any is toggled active.
