Confirmed in 5.1, but works in 5.2.
Installed Merriweather Light and Light Italic from here (dl ttf):

The document takes ages to open in 5.1.
mfmeulenbelt: could you test with 5.1.1 release candidate? If it works, you can
set to RESOLVED WORKSFORME.
