And I am not advanced enough to program some scripts to do the job. Apart from that, in my opinion the cursor is where text is being inserted, _after_ the cursor. That's why I assumed that subscript/superscript should apply to everything _after_ the cursor position and not the whole word. The current solution reminds me of a typical Microsoft product that behaves intelligently and anticipates what the user wants to do, before the user even knows. (more sarcasm in this sentence ;-) And again, why not have an option for this behaviour and let the user choose what is best.
