Luke: I don't think anybody will veto code that adds the option to overwrite
the setting [though I think we already have way too many options] or anything
like that here.
But as you can see above, the developers involved in the gtk3 support don't
agree with the approach, so the only way to persuade them is to provide the
code yourself, or to find somebody who will do the coding for you. It's
unlikely that the developers will spend time hacking on something they don't
agree with :-)
