i can confirm this lag on linux, so it is probably not platform specific.
it took the computer more than 30 seconds to save the file Jeff provided.
during the time i had a very high load.
running ubuntu 11.04 with libreoffice 3.5.3 on a Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo
T7300 @2.00 GHz
