It is simply the REGEX enabled within the file.
Menu Tools > Option > LO Calc : Enable regular expressions in formula.
'(' is a REGEX.
The special characters are . ^ $ * + ? \ [ ( { |
If you want a (V/H)LOOKUP with one of these characters, disable the regex.
