The really annoying thing about this is that the behaviour is :

1) wrong : for some shapes, e.g. ellipse and rectangle, the cross-hairs are
displayed with a contrast border once you have started to draw the object (i.e.
click and drag of the mouse button) - however, the user has no idea where the
left hand corner of the shape object boundary is actually going to be placed as
it is invisible on first placement ;

2) inconsistent : Bezier curve objects, for example, never display the
cross-hairs in contrast.
