Not 100% sure if this is the root cause. I have be attempting to do bibisects
in that area. In certain cases the performance quite good, even with the
permanent CPU hammering (if i remember correctly).
The hammering might be a Windows only thing (not 100% sure). So the MacOS
bibisect repro might be the better alternative
