By design and Not a Bug.
Check the entry in Tools -> AutoCorrect -> AutoCorrect Options on the 'Replace'
tab.
The entry for Spanish looks to be replacing "Nº" with "N.º"
If you do not like that formatting, simply select and delete the replacement
string. It will remain as you type it.
