You have written, that the file has about 780 MB?? Is that right? Never heard about such an expensive Database created with Base and the internal HSQLDB. Could it be that the table is linked to another table? Is "Merged"."ID" a foreign key for this other table? Then it could be you try to delete a row, which is used in another table and couldnt't be deleted.
