          Priority: medium
            Bug ID: 58654
          Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Polish spelling dictionary is missing in the LO
install package and LO Extension repository
          Severity: major
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: All
          Reporter: vangeli...@aol.com
          Hardware: Other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: 4.0.0.0.beta2
         Component: Extensions
           Product: LibreOffice

In fact, this bug report covers 3 separate bugs concerning LibreOffice writing
aids, and especially Polish spelling dictionary, hyphenation rules and
thesaurus.
The extension was last updated by Mracin MiƂkowski in December 2008. It was
created for OpenOffice and is available for download free of charge from Apache
OpenOffice extension repository:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/project/pl-dict

LibreOffice support for the extension is broken from very beginning:

1. Every time LibreOffice with Polish GUI is installed it claims to install
Polish dictionary by default (checked with version 3.5.x, 3.6.x and 4.0.0.0
beta 2), but if you want to use the dictionary for spell checking it doesn't
work at all. On various Polish websites more and more users are complaining
about broken support for spell checking of Polish language. Just take a look at
some comments on highly popular www.dobreprogramy.pl to make sure how many
users quit LibreOffice and choose OpenOffice instead because of this nasty bug,
which is present in every new LO release. Here you go the link to the comments
about LibreOffice
http://www.dobreprogramy.pl/LibreOffice,Program,Windows,21562.html

2. Steps to reproduce and confirm another bug: Install LibreOffice with Polish
GUI, use default installation, run LO Writer, go to Tools/Options/Language
settings/Writing Aids and make sure which dictionaries are installed. There are
some English dictionaries (during the installation process LO claims to install
English, Polish,German and Russian ones) and - to my surprise - there is
SL-Slovenian dictionary instead of PL-Polish one! But there are no dictionaries
for German and Russian...

3. After installation of LibreOffice I go to Apache OpenOffice extensions
repository (see the link above), download and install the proper dictionaries
pack for Polish. It works great with every version of LibreOffice. However,
looking for a Polish dictionary in LibreOffice Extension repository:
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/ gives me no result! Simply, there is NO a
spell checking dictionary for the language that is used by about 50 000 000 of
people throughout Poland and the diaspora in other countries.

I believe the extension can be added to the LibreOffice extensions repository.
