I ended up reinstalling an earlier version of OpenOffice to get the filters, but I've started using LibreOffice for my actual document creation/editing, on the assumption (which may be misguided) that it will get more development than OpenOffice as time goes on. I'd never heard of it until this isssue of filters arose (Apache accidentally missed out their 64 bit filters).
