Multiple windows have been available from the StarOffice era.
As with many programs, once the application is running--every Window of each
module (for that instance of soffice.bin) will be present on the main menu's
'Window' menu.
Select from that list to shift between the open documents.
Opening new documents from the main menu's File option will shift program focus
to that newly opened frame--the previous instance is still open and accessible.
