Notice that with the "Classic" option, when I drag the sidebar left/right, the horizontal spacing between characters change all the time. Now with the "Layout & Match Render" option the horizontal spacing remains unchanged when the sidebar is resized. This is a huge improvement in text rendering. There's only one weird thing. I made this video using the daily build and all worked ok. However, when I compiled from source today, setting Layout & Match Render did not prevent horizontal spacing from changing.
