German has this elision as well. Examples are: eigne (eigene/own), ewge
(ewige/eternal) and while the first example is readable without the apostrophe
it would be a challenge for the second (ew'ge). Stylistic elision are usually
not identified with an apostrophe (but people often wrongly add superfluous
apostrophes). For other languages see [1].

For English the words because and cause come in mind where 'cause could be the
colloquial form or the actual meaning. I don't see that we can cover all cases.
And ultimately isn't it a question for the auto-correction?
