The default behavior should most certainly be ignoring a trailing space. I don't actually believe what you described is your expected behavior, in the sense that I'm assuming you don't actually have any autotext identifier ending with space; which means that if you do ever press D3 after "DT ", it is only because you want the "DT" autotext and not for another reason.
