While this spreadsheet was originally used as part of bug #151207 to show one various areas where multithreading would be beneficial, it can also be used just as a general file opening performance benchmark, even if file opening was multithreaded. Indeed, presumably, even if it would be multithreaded and would use all 4 logical CPUs to open the Lenovo spreadsheet instead of 1, it would still take 50 seconds (instead of 3 mins 20) on that computer, which is still much slower than the 3 to 13 seconds that Gnumeric and Excel can manage. So, I can imagine that multithreading could help, but wouldn't be the entire solution by itself.
