The spellcheck is correct, the fi, fl, ffi etc are not the regular letters but
presentation ligature code points (U+FB01, U+FB02, U+FB03) which are legacy
charcaters that shouldn’t be used in text. The bug here, if there is one, would
be in PDF import that should have resolved these to the regular characters.
