I understand this issue to be the same as bug 39969. Marking as duplicate.
Regarding the sample attached here, note some differences depending on what is
selected. Change font size on:
- column A: partial
- cell A3: works
- row 3: works, but everything is bold
- A3:A4: works, but everything is bold
- A3:A5: does not work
(discrepancy also noted in bug 90781 comment 13)
