The functional need for gridlines is nearly zero, I guess. But if the option is offered it should be useful in someway. And it isn't in my opinion. The fun of the zoomfactor is that it's working the other way around. The grid is only visible after zooming out out, and not zooming in ;-). It's only qualitatively inconsistent.
