Nobody screaming doesn't mean they're fine with the options.  They may just
don't know where to shout.  But I agree with your suggestion here.

Agree.  Don't make every language use the same font.  Sometimes it's not
because, for example, Chinese and alphanumeric have nothing in common.  For me,
the (half sized) alphanumeric characters in some Chinese fonts look so
terrible!
