Not even the workarounds that you recommend do what you think. If you
deactivate the navigator, it pops up again on the next (unpredictable)
occasion, not just when I start LO the next time. And it does occupy an entire
line of precious writing space.

The navigator icon is the only icon in the entire LO software that
- occupies an entire toolbar by itself
- and the user is not allowed to deactivate this toolbar for the entire session
(or forever).
It must really enjoy the highest priority in the view of some developers.
