We have indents and spacing that isn't covered, and which has an option to be not added between same-style paragraphs. I can imagine a property of paragraph (style) similar to the new "BackgroundFullSize" (bug 122508 - thanks Michael!). It looks reasonable and in agreement with that extension - to be able to define if those areas around are covered by background or not. But this automatic extension ...
