This kind of unclear message happens very frequently. Example: when saving as a file format that is not the default ods file format, the message that asks "are you sure" hints that some formatting might not be correctly saved; some users understand that as "you are about to lose some formatting / feature, for sure". I am not convinced that adding some generic information about (potentially) loosing some reference is a positive. The original intention of the request was to avoid having to confirm the dialog.
